One Sock, Two Socks
A. Words that end in s
Show off a single sock. On the board, write the word “sock.” Show off the other sock. Students should say the word for two to you (socks). To the word on the board, add an s.
Next, raise a single ball. Put a ball on the board. When you hand up two balls, ask a student to come up and adjust the word appropriately.
Continue with other commonplace items that are accessible and simple to spell, such hands, pens, cups, rings, and hats.
B. Words that end in es
Repeat the preceding practice with nouns that need the letter es on a separate day. Display containers, combs, clothing, and dinnerware.
Plural Groups
C. Both endings
After students have done the above exercises, play this game.
1. Split up the class into two groups. The S group is one. The ES group is the other.
2. Show the image of a word with a s or an es at the end. Give the object’s name. Additionally, write its name on the board if needed.
3. The students in the group who have the right letter or letters to cause that word to become plural. They yell out their group’s name. As an example, the S pupils in the S group will leap up and shout the letter S if you hold up the picture of a car.
4. Optional: Students who do not leap up at the appropriate moment relocate within the classroom. He can be asked to hold the picture card, write the words on the board, or assist the teacher in running the game.
In this scenario, the squad that has the greatest number of players left after the clock runs out wins.
Words to Use:
S – rug, bell, tree, cow, dog, cat
ES – bus, fox, church, inch, watch, latch, kiss

CCSS.ELA-Literacy L.K.2c (Write letters for sounds) Phonics Flash Cards – Cute pictures and letters help to teach initial sounds
Phonics Flash Cards
Our phonics flash cards can be used as an addition to your existing literacy curriculum. Flash cards provide convenient, quick practice, even in short bursts of time. Student can test one another, and parents can test their children as well.
You can use these free cards at home or in the classroom. Below the photos, see some suggestions for utilizing the flash cards.
Common Core Standard Concepts for Applying These Flash Cards
- Present a single card to the complete class at a time. Together with the students, pronounce the picture’s name. Stress how the initial letter sounds.
- Students should be asked to list other terms that start with the same letter. Prepare a few well-known terms of your own.
- For every student, print one set of cards. Students should cut up their own deck of cards and put them in bags that may be sealed. Instruct the pupils to read the letters and images with their families after they bring their cards home.
- Make an additional deck of cards. Cut the letters off of the corresponding portion of each card. Ask pupils to identify each picture’s initial letter.
- Students should create their own comparable sets of flash cards in small groups to share in your center.
